Local residents of Islington, North London, England, can now enjoy a free work out at their new outdoor gym in Whittington Park.

Working in conjunction, with Islington Council and the Friends of Whittington Park, UK contruction firm Balfour Beatty has paid for and installed a cross trainer, chest press, leg press, and chin-up bars

The unusual and innovative equipment takes indoor gym machines outdoors, and offers all park users and local residents a chance to have a free workout and exercise in the fresh air.

This is a superb idea and one that should serve as a blue print for local councils around the world, serious about educating their residents about Sarcopenia and encourage resistance training with free and easily accessible equipment.

One year ban on new fast-food restaurants in South L.A.

July 24, 2008 by sarcopenia

A proposal to ban the openings of any new fast food outlets from has won unanimous support from a Los Angeles City Council committee.

If approved by the Council and Mayor the law would prevent any fast-food chains from opening new restaurants within a 32-square-mile area of South Los Angeles.

With the highest concentration of fast-food restaurants in the USA, and soaring levels of obesity and diabetes, city planners are offering tax breaks, electricity discounts and expedited planning reviews to encourage grocers and traditional restaurants to set up shop.

… a clear message that pervasive junk food is out and healthy food is in.
